Feasibility study on the proposed SGR connecting Ethiopia and Sudan

In July 2016, two requests were submitted to the AfDB by the Governments of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and The Sudan. The joint requests were for financial support to:
a) undertake a feasibility study for the establishment of Special Economic Zone at the border between the two countries; and,
b) conduct bankable feasibility study for the proposed Standard Gauge Railway connecting the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and The Sudan. The requests were supported by several bilateral agreements between the two countries, including one pertaining to the utilization of the Port of Sudan by Ethiopia.
